Fran Receives National Award
WFSC's Fran O'Connor is awarded CP Sport Swimmer of the Year
Wyre Forest Swimming Club member, Fran O'Connor (17), has had her year
of achievement in the pool recognised by being awarded the Cerebral
Palsy (CP) Sport Swimmer of the Year. With eight of her CP team-mates
bound for the Beijing Paralympics, Fran was surprised and delighted to be
presented with the trophy.
CP Sport has a reputation for developing top class swimmers who have gone on to win many medals in both national and international events and officials there are hotly tipping Fran for future Paralyimpic success.
Jill Stidever, swimming co-ordinator for CP, said "Fran is aware that CP athletes develope later than people with other disabilities and with eight older CP's in Team GB she is waiting to step into their shoes".
Jill Stidever is confident that Fran will reach her goal. She said "We presented Fran with the award following a year of outstanding success. She did not make the exceptionally high GB team standard this year, but watch out for 2012 when her vibrant character and determination should see her there".
Well done Fran.
