Here are the posts for August 2009Steve Boyce and Josh Whale gain Gold MedalsWyre Forest Swimming Club members, Steven Boyce (24) and Josh Whale (16) were part of the West Midlands team in the 8th GB National Summer Games in Leicester in July.
Steve swam in 3 events, reaching the finals in all of them.
Steve gained gold in the 50m Fly and 100m Free. Steve also got the gold medal in the 4 X 50m Medley Relay Team in which he swam the fly leg.
Next year Steve hopes to represent GB with the Downs Syndrome International Swimming Team in Tawain.
Josh Whale also swam in three events reaching the finals in all three and gained the gold medal in the 50m Freestyle event and silver in the 50m Breaststroke. Josh swam the freestyle leg of the winning 4 X 50m Medley Relay alongside team (and Club) member Steve Boyce.
Both swimmers train regularly with Wyre Forest S.C.

Please note the following:
The 400m IM on Sunday 6th September will now start after both LTS and Junior Development training. Cards 6.30pm please.
The 200 Fly on Monday 14th September will be instead of normal Focus Group training that evening.
The Gala on Friday 18th September will be in place of the normal Focus Group training on that night. There will be Junior Development training at Holy Trinity but no Focus Group training there afterwards.
The Gala on Sunday 27th September will start after LTS but there will be no normal Junior Development or Focus Group training that evening.
Entry cards are now being handed out. New Training TimesWith effect from 1st September there will be the following changes to the Training Timetable which will effect Swimmers in the Advanced, Junior Development and the Wednesday evening Focus Group at Holy Trinity.
ADVANCED:
From 1st September there will be NO more Advanced Training on Sunday mornings at Stourport. This session will take place on Tuesdays at Stourport from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT:
From 1st September, training on Tuesday evenings at Holy Trinity will be changed to Wednesday evenings from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.
FOCUS GROUP - Wednesday Eve. (Holy Trinity):
From 1st September, this Focus Group session will be at the later time of 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
Everyone affected by these changes should have been or will be notified shortly. Please speak to John Howles, Becki Rowley or your coach if you need any further information.
National Championships 2009A busy competitive swimming season came to an end for five local swimmers as they competed in the British Gas National Swimming Championships in Ponds Forge, Sheffield last week. Pride of place goes to Claire Cashmore (21) who was representing City of Leeds. In a scintillating 200 metre Individual Medley race she set a new European record as she gained fourth place in the Multi-Disability competition. She also set a new British record in the 100 metre Breaststroke event to claim the Silver medal. She gained a Bronze medal in the 50 metre Freestyle and also qualified for the finals of the 100 metre Butterfly and 100 metre Backstroke.
Fran O'Connor (18) reached the finals of the 50 metre and 100 metre Freestyle events, finishing outside the medal places.
Scott Allin (16) and Luke Ladbrooke (18) both set personal best times in the 100 metre Backstroke events to reach the semi-final, where they were unable to progress to the final. Allin also set a personal best time in the 200 metre Backstroke, but missed a final place by less then one second. Ladbrooke also competed in this event and was just outside his personal best time.
Eliza Bradley (15) competed in the 50 metre Freestyle event. She was one of the youngest competitors in her group but was unable to progress into the semi-finals.
Cashmore and O'Connor meet up with their GB swimming colleagues at the weekend for a two-week intensive training camp to begin preparations for their Autumn competitions which will include the European Championships in Reykjavik in October and the World Short Course Championships in Rio de Janeiro in December.
