- 17 November 2009 18:50 - GeneralNational Swimming Arena - 14th November 2009

In a change of fortunes in this round of the National Swimming Arena the 'B' team were the stars of the evening coming 2nd in their round in Division 3. The winning team with 241 points was Cinderford, Wyre Forest 'B' had 202 points, Solihull 'B' 198 points, Oldbury 186 points and Camp Hill 'B' 147 points.

1st Places were gained by: Alex Thorley in the Open 4 lengths fly, Jess Lewis 13/u 4 lths Back, Jack Rowley 13/u 4 lths Fly, Grace Catchpole 15/u 4 lths Free,  Tom Middleton 13/u 4 lths Free and Jess Smith 15/u 4 lths Breast.

The 'A' team did not fair so well coming 6th in their round of this league in division 1 with 115 points.

Wyre Forest 'A' was unfortunately fielding a depleted team with the added disadvantage of having a number of swimmers only just back to training after illness. Opposition was extremely stiff with Leicester Penguins taking top spot with 246 points, Gloucester City 'A' was 2nd with 227 points, Halesowen 3rd with 190 points, Ledbury 4th with 150 points, Mansfield just beat WF by 1 point coming 5th with 116 points.

A brilliant result for the 'B' team with many personal best times. A disappointing result for the 'A' team but still some valiant swims by some very under the weather swimmers.

- 10 November 2009 16:02 - GeneralClaire to be Ambassador for 2012

Wyre Forest Swimming Club's own Claire Cashmore has been honoured, along with three other local athletes, by becoming an ambassador for the 2012 Olympics.

Claire Cashmore, 21, has won bronze medals at the Athens and Beijing Games and will be looking to improve in London.

The University of Leeds student, who grew up in Kidderminster, felt that being named an ambassador strengthened her ties with her home county.

“It’s nice to be asked to be an ambassador. Even though I am at the University of Leeds, my roots are in Kidderminster and I think it’s important that I keep strong links with the area,” commented the swimmer.

“If what I do in the pool helps inspire the next generation of swimmers then it would be brilliant.

“It’s been great that local people have been following my success over the years and it spurs me on to do better.

“The London Olympics have caught the imagination of all potential competitors and I am eager to pass that on.”
