Worcester Winter League 2006

Results from the 2006 League Galas

Round One Gala at Halesowen

Wyre Forest made a very positive start to the first competitive campaign of 2006, the Worcester Winter League.

The first galas of the league were held on Saturday 21 January. Wyre Forest competed at Halesowen against teams from Oldbury, Perry Beeches, Pershore, Redditch and Stourbridge.

The Gala was won by a strong Stourbridge team with Wyre Forest finishing in second place. There were a series of fine performances from the WFSC team, many competing in this League for the first time. 28 personal best times were recorded by Wyre Forest swimmers with 14 of these coming from the 11 years and under section of the team.

Round Two Gala at Halesowen

It was a disappointing evening for the Wyre forest team on Saturday at Halesowen as we came in 6th place with 102 points.  Due to a depleted team and a lack of 15 year old swimmers our younger swimmers had to swim out of their age group against, in some cases, competitors three years older than themselves.

Eleven-year-old Eliza Bradley who is still battling against a recent viral infection had to retire from the 13 and under 3 length butterfly event. She then rallied back and managed to win the 11 and under 1 length butterfly and the 11 and under 1 length breaststroke.  Lucy Walters the team Junior Coach had to don her costume and step into the breach to stand in for another ailing swimmer Sian Griffiths.

The team still managed to gain 21 personal bests from the competition with fourteen-year-old Rob Smith adding three new ones to his collection.
