The Mercian League 2008

Round One - 26th April 2008
Held at Bromsgrove

The Mercian League is back in 2008 after a year off. 18 Teams take part in this League. There are 3 rounds with the 3rd round being the final. In round one Wyre Forest came 3rd with 207 points, Stratford A came 1st with 228 points and Droitwich were 2nd with 215 points, Boldmere were 4th with 173 points and Tamworth were 5th with 151 points. Wolverhampton did not swim.

Swimmers with current MDQT's  (Midland & District Qualifying Times) are precluded from this League. The full results are on the FORUM. Age groups are 10 yrs, 12/u, 14/u and Open as at 12th July 2008.

1st Places in Individual Events: Jessica Lewis 10yrs 50m backstroke, Emily Goodman 12/u 100m breastroke with a PB, Oche Igoche 12/u 100m Breastroke with a PB, Alex Thorley (14) Open 100m Fly, Josh Bradley Open 100m Back with a PB, Richard Allen 10yrs 50m Breastroke, Lizzie Hall 14/u 100m Freestyle and Sam Rose 12/u 100m Freestyle.

1st Places in Team Events: Girls 10 yr Freestyle Relay Team of Jessica Lewis, Josie Blakiston (PB), Alice Fish and Sophie Hall (PB) and the Medley Team of Blakiston (PB), Fish, J Lewis and S Hall, Girls 14/u Freestyle Relay Team of Beth Lewis, Kat Whelan (PB), Emily Goodman and Lizzie Hall and the Medley Team of B Lewis, Whelan, L Hall and Jessica Charles, Boys 14/u freestyle Relay Team of Sam Rose, Nick Thorley, Oche Igoche and Alex Thorley and the Girls Open Medley team of Verity Thorley, Emily Bishop (PB), Emily Lane (PB) and Lizzie Hall.

Round Two - 7th June 2008
Held at Bromsgrove

Wyre Forest came 2nd in the 2nd Round of this league with 205 points, Walsall came 1st with 237 points, Perry Beaches 3rd with 201 points, Redditch 4th with 172 points, Bromsgrove 5th with 151 points and Etwall 6th with 75 points.

1st Places in Individual Events: Jessica Lewis 10yr 2 lths back and 1 lth fly with a PB, Emily Goodman 12/u 4 lths breast with a PB, Oche Igoche 12/u 4 lths breast with a PB and 4 lths free, Max Ladbrooke 14/u 4 lths back with a PB, Hannah McCreedy 12/u 4 lths back with a PB, Alex Thorley 14/u 4 lths fly, Luke Barnett (11) 12/u 2 lths fly with a PB.

1st Places in team Events: Girls 10/u 4 x 1 freestyle team of Jessica Lewis (PB), Frankie Ward, Beth Hinton (PB) and Sophie Hall; Girls 12/u Medley Relay team of Hannah McCreedy (PB), Emily Goodman, Erica Harris (11) and Jess Charles and the freestyle team of Hannah McCreedy, Jess Charles, Emily Goodman and Erica Harris (PB) and the Boys 12/u Medley Relay Team of Calum Tinsdale (10), Hayden Griffiths (11), Luke Barnett (11) and Oche Igoche.

Round Three - 12th July 2008
held at Worcester

This was the 3rd and final round of this league. Wyre Forest came 4th with 170 points. In 1st place was Brierley Hill with 205 points, 2nd Perry Beeches with 194 points, 3rd Worcester with 191 points, 5th Droitwich with 150 points and 6th Northgate with 133 points.

1st Places in Individual Events: Emily Goodman 12/u 100m breast with a PB, Alex Thorley 14/u 100m fly and 100m Freestyle, Verity Thorley Open 100m Backstroke, Jacob Jackson 10 yr 50m breast and Hannah Wear Open 100m breastroke and Open 100 IM.

1st Places in Team Events: 10 yr Boys medley relay team of Alex Renton, Jacob Jackson, Jack Rowley and Phillip Hall.
